Project Results

Phase One
Comparing selected sand samples with similitaed Moon and Mars regolith

The similated moon regolith is based on Apollo lunar observations and closely matches the composition of regolith in the mare areas of the moon.  It is a powder made from crushed volcanic ash erupted from a volcano in Arizona. The similated Mars regolith is based on Viking data and closely matches the regolith in the bright areas of Mars. It is a powder made from weathered volcanic ash from a volcano in Hawaii.

Phase Two
Comparing reflectance values for the presence of water in Moon and Mars regolith (dry, wet, and frozen)
